As we stepped into 2025, Fightstrong Foundation wasted no time in making an impact. January was a month filled with dedication, compassion, and progress. We began the year by providing critical support to four incredible families, ensuring they had the resources and encouragement needed to face their battles with strength. In addition to our direct patient support, we took significant strides in planning our largest annual event and expanded our outreach to further engage with the community, reinforcing our mission to uplift and empower those affected by cancer.
Supporting Our Fighters
James Martinez, a spirited 24-year-old, was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma on December 24, 2024. A fitness enthusiast who loves weightlifting and soccer, James has faced challenges in maintaining his active lifestyle during treatment. His unwavering faith and the support of his family and friends have been his pillars of strength. To honor his courage and determination, we are thrilled to take him to the Subway Series to watch the Yankees face off against the Mets, celebrating his resilience and love for baseball. Brian McNamara, affectionately known as "Coach Mac," is a 44-year-old history teacher and football coach from New Jersey. In late 2024, he was diagnosed with Nasopharyngeal Small Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of head and neck cancer. His treatment regimen includes twice-daily Proton Radiation and intensive chemotherapy sessions. The need to temporarily relocate closer to his treatment center has added financial strains due to transportation and living expenses. To support Brian and his family, we participated in an Orange Theory fundraiser class on January 4th, providing gift cards for essentials and transportation to help alleviate some of their burdens. Read more about Brian’s story here.
A dedicated college student at NYU, Ruchir is bravely battling leukemia while pursuing his education. He expressed a need for a hybrid bike to navigate campus more easily, and we were proud to make that happen.
Diana was swiftly diagnosed with stage 0 breast cancer and was able to have it removed right away. To support her recovery, we provided a thoughtfully curated breast cancer basket, assembled by one of our dedicated volunteers. Additionally, we included a gift card for multiple months of nail care and a couples massage at Sojo Spa to help her heal and rejuvenate.
A Look at the Year Ahead
January also marked the official start of planning for our 4th Annual Fightstrong Foundation Golf Outing. This event continues to grow in scale and impact, and we are excited to make this year’s outing our biggest yet.
Beyond our patient support and event planning, Joseph had the opportunity to share his journey and the mission of Fightstrong with the Metuchen, NJ, boys' basketball team. During his visit, he spoke about his personal battle with cancer, the challenges he faced, and how those struggles fueled his desire to create Fightstrong Foundation. His message resonated deeply with the young athletes, reminding them that perseverance, teamwork, and community support can overcome even the toughest battles. The players listened intently as Joseph shared how Fightstrong has grown into a force for change, providing direct assistance to families in need. Inspired by his words, the team pledged to find ways to contribute to the cause, reinforcing the importance of standing together in times of adversity.
As we move forward into 2025, we remain committed to our mission: providing meaningful support to those battling cancer and ensuring that no one fights alone. Thank you to everyone who continues to stand with us in this fight. Together, we are stronger!
